Background:
Clarendon and Ellen residents asked for a grassy area on Clarendon Road to be levelled so there was safe and easy access across this area. The work was done through the Environmental Improvement Budget. The levelling requested has not been done and the area has not been made level or safe. Response:
This was originally an Environmental Improvement Budget proposal received through the Community Engagement Team via residents.
After surveying the site, it was noted that that there were some potholes and low levels in the grass but too fully level it would be costly and difficult to achieve re-establishment of the grass due to lack of ability to water and keep people off the area during the establishment phase. Some alternative proposals were drawn up to improve access in the area including the installation of a self- binding gravel pathway and some of the soil from the path construction was used to fill potholes and a low area in the grass.
As it was not possible to level the area the Community Engagement Team undertook further consultation with residents. As there were no negative comments on the proposal the works were procured and installed in March 2022.
